The Third Annual Mac Donovan Memorial Youth and Adult Golf Tournament is slated for Sunday, July 23, at the Mark Twain Country Club, 28209 MO-154 in Paris. The tournament is to raise money for the girls and boys Paris high school golf teams.

In 2010, the Paris Golf Association was formed by parents and community members to raise money needed to fund the Paris High School golf teams. Budget constraints forced the school district to discontinue monetary support. The Mac Donovan Foundation was formed two years ago to support youth golf in the Paris community in memory of Mac’s love for the Mark Twain Country Club and youth sports. Mac was a life-time resident of Monroe County, owned and operated Donovan’s Garage for 47 years in Holliday, Mo. and served on the country club board for 18 years. In 2017, the foundation purchased an indoor golf simulator for the team to get a jump start on practice in early spring when the weather was not conducive. Having more practice time helped Paris High School senior Ben Ebbesmeyer to secure a spot to compete at the Missouri State High School Golf Tournament, and the team placed second at districts and competed in sectionals.

For the third annual tournament in 2017, there will be a four-person scramble. The group can be made up of men, women and youth, but there must be at least one adult in a group of youth. People under the age of 13, over the age of 65 and women will tee off from the front tees. The cost will be $140 per team or $35 per person. They will play 18 holes and tee time will be at 9 a.m. or earlier, depending on the amount of teams.

Lunch will be available for purchase, there will be additional fun golf games and golf carts will be available for rent. Sponsorship spots are still available if donors, companies or businesses are interested in sponsoring a golf hole, items for prizes or player gift bags. For more information, please contact Nina Milenius at milenius@cox.net or Marie Ebbesmeyer. Register early to secure your spot with Ebbesmeyer at mebbesmeyer@paris.k12.mo.us or 660-327-5037.
