This summer Mexico varsity girls basketball players Adria Costley and Raigan Playter played on travel teams, both of which were in action at recent events.
Even the duo isn't on the same roster, because Adria Costley plays for Missouri Phenom Columbia 16U and Playter suits up for Missouri Phenom Columbia 15U, both squads were at the Run 4 The Roses Showcase Event July 6-8 in Louisville, Ky. The teams then trekked over to Chicago, Il., on July 10-12 for the Nike National Tournament of Champions, a College Exposure Showcase that featured over 700 teams.
"Adria's team finished 4-1 in Chicago and 6-1 in Louisville, losing in the divisional Platinum Championship," said Adria's Father, Ed Costley. "Great opportunity to showcase for college coaches. We started out the Louisville trip with five to eight coaches and created a lot of buzz. By day two in Chicago we had 20-25 college coaches sitting at our games."
For Playter, her squad went 2-3 in pool play for this second event.
"There are 10 teams in the Phenom program from St. Louis, Kansas City and all over Missouri. Phenom was started around 2008 with the help of Tyronn Lue wanting to start a travel program for Missouri girls," Ed Costley said. "Phenom has provided a long list of girls to continue basketball careers after high school. I've been apart of the program since it started, coaching various teams. My oldest started playing with that group and teammates with our girls coach Danielle Ingrum-Louder."
Next up for Adria Costley and Playter is the Battle of the Bayou in New Orleans July 23-25 prior to The Showdown July 27-30 in Dallas, Tx.
