Speakeasy-style party planned July 27 at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site

JEFFERSON CITY – The public is invited to a speakeasy-style event July 27 at the Rozier Gallery in Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. The free event will be from 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will offer viewing of historical photos from Missouri c 1925 as well as hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and mocktails. Guests are invited to come dressed in a 1920s-inspired costume and enter a contest for prizes. The event is co-sponsored by Friends of the Missouri State Museum.

Eclipse program planned Aug. 2 at Missouri State Museum

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri State Museum will present the program “Eclipse and More” on Aug. 2 as part of its ongoing “Museum after Hours” series. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the free program will begin at 7 p.m. in the History Hall in the east wing of the State Capitol.

David Ganey, astronomy teacher at Jefferson City High School, will present a program on the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse and other upcoming astronomical events. Information will be presented on how to safely view the eclipse and how to enjoy Missouri skies – night and day.

The Missouri State Museum hosts “Museum after Hours” events the first Wednesday of every month. During this series, guests can take part in the special programs offered and have the opportunity to view the museum’s exhibits. The galleries are open from 5 to 9 p.m. on event nights. Evening guests should enter through the carriage entrance on the south side of the building under the grand staircase.

Explorer Day Camp offered Aug. 1-3 at Knob Noster State Park

JEFFERSON CITY – An Explorer Day Camp from Aug. 1-3 at Knob Noster State Park near Knob Noster is the perfect way to learn about nature while having fun. The free day camp is offered to children between 8 and 14 years of age.

Participants will kayak, hike and learn about native Missouri wildlife while earning their Missouri State Park Explorer Patch. The first day will focus on marvelous mammals; the second day will focus on awesome amphibians and rad reptiles; and the third day will focus on participants earning the explorer patch.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited and registration must be received by July 31. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will not be provided. For questions or to register, call 660-563-2463.
