Head coach Keith Louder's approach to the Mexico varsity softball team has been formed over the course of his years in the dugout and along the third base line.
He's far from being alone in this endeavor, though, which includes Lady Bulldogs varsity assistant softball coach Kayla Meier.
"I graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange University in 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with an Emphasis in English," said Meier. "During my two years at HLGU I pitched, played first base, moved over to third base, and finished my collegiate athletic career as a second baseman."
While Meier actually played her high school ball at Fox HS in Arnold, Mo., currently she's about to begin her third year teaching ninth and 10th grade english at MHS. This makes her one of four teachers at the high school who attended Hannibal-LaGrange, three of which competed in collegiate athletics.
"I am one of two Assistant Softball Coaches for our softball program. Danielle Ingrum, the other assistant softball coach at Mexico, is a Mexico High School alum and she was a three sport athlete," Meier said. "Our duties vary depending on the need, but really all of us work together to run our program. Visibly, I coach third base during JV games."
Outside of athletics Meier is very involved in not just trying to improve her own neighborhood, but also the world. Most recently that meant getting up early on Monday to make a long drive before getting on a rather lengthy flight just to end up in one of Europe's less sought-after destinations.
"I have had a very busy summer," said Meier. "Currently, I (just got back from) Bucharest, Romania to serve alongside Harlea Ministries with a mission team."
