On Thursday, July 27, at 12:07 a.m., Thursday, Mexico Department Public Safety was called to 1700 block of West Boulevard regarding a report of shots fired. Officers found that a 21-year-old white male reported being the victim of an assault. The victim said there were multiple suspects.

According to a news release from Mexico Public Safety, the victim had met with the assailant to discuss a property dispute. The victim recognized the assailant had a weapon. One of the suspects punched the victim in the face. The victim attempted to run away, crossing Boulevard Street and running into a house.

Witnesses report seeing two black males chasing the victim before shots were heard.

A Chevrolet Tahoe was found to have a bullet hole in the door. No one was injured from the gunfire.

Darius Hoffman, 29, of Mexico, was later arrested and taken to Audrain County Jail charged with unlawful use of a weapon, third-degree assault, and property damage 2nd.
