There will be a Special Election on August 8 in some areas of Audrain County, according to a news release from Shelley Harvey, Audrain County Clerk.

Voters residing in three area school districts within Audrain County will be heading to the polls to vote on property tax levy increases.

The districts are Van-Far R-1, Centralia R-6 and North Callaway R-1. Only voters residing in these districts will have an issue to vote on, there are no other issues on the ballot.

For Van-Far voters the Vandalia and E. Cuivre precincts have been combined and the polling place is the First Baptist Church Multi-Purpose Building in Vandalia; Farber precinct will vote at Farber City Hall,

Audrain County residents within the Centralia R-6 and North Callaway R-1 School Districts will vote at their normal polling locations; those include the 4-H Building, Hopewell Baptist Church and Friendship Christian Church.

According to Harvey, the new Photo Identification law became effective June 1. Voters will now be asked to show a photo ID before voting. Voters who do not have a photo ID you can still vote by showing the same ID they have shown in the past and sign the provided statement.

Voters who will be absent on election day may vote absentee in person at the county clerk's office until 5 p.m., August 7. Requests for ballots to be mailed must be received by August 2. The county clerk's office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon August 5.
