On Tuesday at approximately 2:57 p.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 2700 block of South Clark in reference to a fire.

Responding personnel found the contents of a trash dumpster burning. The fire was extinguished with no damage to any surrounding property. According to MPSD, it was determined that earlier, someone had emptied an ash tray with hot contents into the dumpster. Witnesses saw the contents of the dumpster begin to smolder and thought they removed the ashes and embers. The witnesses later saw the fire in the dumpster.

There were no injuries from the incident.

At approximately 5:46 p.m., Tuesday, MPSD responded to the 400 block of West Monroe in reference to a fire.

Responding personnel found the contents of a commercial clothes dryer burning, with the flame starting to spread out of the front of the dryer. The fire was contained and extinguished in that area with only the dryer and contents suffering fire damage.

An employee stated that he was in the building when he smelled something unusual and noticed the fire. The employee used two fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the fire but was unable to get it extinguished. The cause is still undetermined.

There were no injuries from the incident.
