Samantha Rachels, 23, of St Louis and Diane Williams, 44, of O’Fallon are in custody after a vehicle pursuit led deputies through Boone, Callaway, Montgomery, and into Warren County Wednesday night.
Boone County deputies were originally alerted to a possible stolen 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 near Stadium Boulevard in Columbia. Information obtained indicated the vehicle was stolen earlier today in Arnold.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop, traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 at speeds in excess of 90 MPH. The pursuit continued into Callaway County where assistance from Callaway County deputies as well as troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol was provided. Tire deflation devices were used to slow the vehicle and it continued into Montgomery County, eventually becoming disabled near the 189-mile marker of Interstate 70 in Warren county.
Driver Samantha Rachels and her passenger Diane Williams were taken into custody without incident.
Rachels was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree; felony resisting arrest; failure to yield to an emergency vehicle; and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident.
Williams was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in the second-degree. Upon her arrest, Williams was also found to have several active St. Louis and St. Charles warrants for her arrest. Coincidentally, her arrest warrants were for the following offenses: first-degree tampering (two counts); obstructing police (two counts); and traffice offense.
Suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
