With a schedule that doesn't allow for much in the way of a home-field advantage, the North Callaway varsity cross country team began the season on Saturday at Fulton and repeated as girls' team champions by five points.

"Leading the way for North Callaway was the individual Callaway County Meet champion Kyla Bertschinger with a time of 13:50. Runner up in the meet was Kaleigh Moore with a time of 13:53," said head coach Chad Craghead. "Other finishers for North Callaway included Alyssa Rinehart in eighth place with a timeof 16:42, Olivia Isaaks placed ninth in 16:45, Brianna Douglas finished 11th after clocking in at 16:46 and Christa Gilman came in 15th in 20:38."

In the second race of the day the North Callaway boy's took third. Running point for the Thunderbird's at this event was Khobi Kellerman in 11th at 12:29, Ean Rohrbach came in 17th at 13:39 and grabbing the 18th spot in 13:53 was Josh McCowan.

"This is the only two-mile race we run," Craghead said. "Grant Eichman took 19th in 14:35, Joshua Craghead was 20th at 14:58, Joseph Crawford came in 21st with a time of 15:06 and Noah Scrogum filled the 22nd slot."

North Callaway next competes on Aug. 26 at the Mexico Invitational.
