In preparation for the New Franklin Tournament on Sept. 9, the Community R-6 varsity girl's softball team went to Wright City on Tuesday for an Eastern Missouri Conference game and was defeated 13-4.

The Lady Trojan's biggest obstacle in this game was ending the first inning down 11-1. The squad did score twice in the fifth to make it a nine-run game, but that's as close as they'd get despite four errors by Wright City.

"After a first inning where Wright City hit every hole imaginable, we played solid defense. I was very proud of my pitcher, Sirrina Dunn, for sticking with her game and not losing her cool when they started hitting well off her," said coach Haley Nobis. "Overall, aside from one inning, we played well. Our hitting started to come around this game, so I hope that keeps up the rest of this week with two winnable games and a tournament."

Headlining this seven-hit performance for CR-6 was Delaney Bowers at 1-for-3 with a run and one RBI, Deann Brooks walked once in three at-bats and Emma Angel went 1-for-3. Natalie Thomas also added a hit in four trips to the plate and Sirrina Dunn was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Dunn was also in the circle for the Lady Trojans and allowed 13 runs, 12 earned, on 12 hits and five walks with two strikeouts in six innings of work to get stuck with the loss.

Community R-6 is at Clopton for an EMO game on Sept. 12.
