Little Dixie Fire Protection District Station 4 was dispatched to a natural cover fire at the Richard Cochran property in the 15000 block of Highway M, Mexico at 1:32p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival fire fighters found a field of corn stubble and standing corn on fire and spreading quickly to a wooded area. Fire was attacked and extinguished. Approximately 12 acres of stubble and standing corn was destroyed by fire.

According to Ken Hoover, Little Dixie Chief, the cause of the fire is believed to have been ignited by a bad bearing or debris from the exhaust of a combine being used to harvest the corn.

Little Dixie units cleared the scene at 3:21 p.m.

Two pieces of fire apparatus and 10 firefighters responded to the emergency.

Little Dixie was assisted by the North Callaway Fire Protection District.

There was no other damage or injuries.
