In the final regular season home game of her prep career, Community R-6 varsity softball pitcher Sirina Dunn allowed just two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings on Wednesday.

Taylor Cope also went 1-for-2 with a walk for the Lady Trojans as they defeated Mark Twain on Senior Night 7-2.

"Tonight was fun. We hit the ball well. My senior pitcher Sirrina Dunn threw a pretty great game and my defense really came to play," said coach Haley Nobis. "Fellow senior Tayler Cope did an awesome job hanging tough behind the plate at catcher tonight as well. We hit the ball when we needed to and were solid on defense when we needed to make plays.

Supporting the efforts of those upperclassmen for CR-6, 6-18 overall, 1-9 Eastern Missouri Conference, was Natalie Thomas with a RBI and a walk, Taren Clark and Kaite Bertels combined for three walks and two runs and Deann Brooks added a hit and two RBI in four at-bats. Maddie Gastler and Emily Angel also posted a walk and a run in two trips to the plate each and Dalaney Bowers went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run.

"Deann Brooks was an animal at third, and really didn't want to share the defensive outs. It was refreshing to see her come back strong after a nasty play at third that left her sidelined with a concussion for a few weeks," Nobis said. "Left fielder Dalaney Bowers led us in hitting tonight with a single and a double and that was great to see as she has really been working to improve offensively."

The Lady Trojans big inning came in the second when they broke a scoreless tie by taking a 5-0 lead. The squad then scored again in the third and the fifth to make it a six-run game before allowing Mark Twain to cross the plate one last time in the sixth.

"Overall, I could not have asked for a better regular season closer out of my girls," said Nobis. "We have Mark Twain again and Wellsville coming up on Saturday and those are both very winnable games. I expect us to come out and compete all day Saturday in the EMO Conference tourney."
