A Harrisburg Public School teacher and coach Brian T. Simpson, 37, was killed, and four students injured in a traffic accident Thursday involving a school bus and a 2006 Dodge pickup.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 2:29 p.m. when Brandon N. Brill, crossed the centerline and struck the school bus head-on. Both vehicles overturned on the south side of the roadway, where the bus caught on fire.
Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene by Boone County Medical Examiner Dori Burke.
Four student passengers received injuries. Zoe J. Carr, 16, of Sturgeon and Katie Starbuck, 13, of Harrisburg received serious injuries. Mariah S. Murphy, 13, of Harrisburg; and Carolanne E. Russell, 13, of Hallsville, received minor injuries. All four were taken by ambulance to the University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia.
Brill, 26, of Clark, received serious injuries and was flown to the University Hospital and Clinics.
Harrisburg Public Schools issued a statement on social media stating school will not be in session Friday.
