Dave C. Murray, 83, of Mexico, passed away at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Lockewood Park Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Dave was born November 17, 1933 in St. Louis, the son of Calvin R. and Myrtle S. (Hiemos) Murray. On April 30, 1952 in Van Nuys, California, he married Mary R. Davis. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2008.
Mr. Murray was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean War. He honorably served on the Admiral Crew as a Radioman 3rd Class. Mr. Murray also received barber training while in the Navy and continued with this career after discharge. During his life, he was a true entrepreneur. He owned and operated several businesses. In 1968, he purchased Al and Ken Zephyr in Mexico, MO. The family-owned business became Murray’s Convenience Store in the mid 1980’s where he gained many, many life-long friends before retiring in 2004.
Dave was a member of Lockewood Park Baptist Church, where he served as usher. His church family had become a very important part of his life. During retirement he became a woodworking specialist and loved music, even teaching himself to play the guitar.
Survivors include one son, Steven A. Murray of Mexico; two granddaughters, Heather (Mitch) DeMint of Mexico and Amanda (Kelly) Sells of Mexico; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Drew DeMint; and several other relatives.
In addition to his wife and parents, Dave was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin, LeRoy and Kenneth Murray.
