Tuesday was an exciting day for the students at school district's Early Childhood Center. For the first time since school began in August, the students got to play on their new playground.
"They are so excited," said Emily Schmidt, director of Early Childhood and Special Education for the district, as she watched the children run from one piece of equipment to another. "They have watched as it was going up and now they get to play on it," Schmidt said.
The new playground is equipped with all inclusive equipment, which means it is designed for everyone, including children with disabilities. Schmidt said the are many areas on the playground for the children, such as a quiet area, swings, slides, climbing walls, and more. "It is so exciting," she said.
When school began in August it had a new home. The center is now located at McMillan Elementary School in a new addition to the school. The center was one of the additions of the Mexico Public Schools due to the bond issue passed in 2016.
Members of the Genesis Church, Bright Futures faith-based partner for the center, were on hand Tuesday morning to passed out popsicles to the children and their families in celebration and grand opening of their new playground.
