With then regular season beginning to wind down and the playoffs lying just over the horizon, the Missouri Military Academy varsity soccer team was put to the test over the weekend at the Mexico Invitational.

Just one win later and the Fighting Colonels were playing for the championship against Chillicothe in a contest highlighted by two goals from Joao Souza on their way to earning a 4-1 victory.

"Joao Souza opened the scoring early, putting the Colonels on the scoresheet. Donald Williams scored another excellent solo goal to make it 2-0 and Joao Souza added another great goal to make it 3-0 at the half," said coach Liam Collins. "Chillicothe put some pressure on the Colonels and pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 but Fabian Campos rounded out the scoring with an excellent strike to make it 4-1 to the Colonels. A well deserved victory which earned the Colonels first place at the Mexico Invitational."

Prior to that game MMA faced the host Bulldogs and came out ahead 9-2. Opening the scoring was Jorge Garcia on an assist by Kenny Kazoora, racking up four goals was Souza and Fransisco Fletes hit nothing but net twice.
