Shirley Jean Niekamp, 77, of Mexico, passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at her home.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Shirley was born October 25, 1939 in Mexico, the daughter of Mason Sewell and Virginia Day. She was the granddaughter of Rev. David and Maude Sewell and Richard and Christine Day.
She married Walter Stegeman, Jr. on June 21, 1958. They were married for 41 years and had two sons who lived in Homeland, Cal., Todd Stegeman and Ross Stegeman.
Shirley tutored at Wayzeta Jr. High School in Minneapolis, Minn., and owned and operated her art gallery in Hopkins, Minn. named “The Main Artery”. She ran and organized the Art Fair every year for the Chamber of Commerce in Minneapolis.
Shirley returned to Mexico on January 1, 1999 and worked as a “Court Advocate” for domestic violence.
On February 16, 2001, she married Gerald Niekamp. She was blessed to have five step-children, Ron (Marilyn) Niekamp of Mexico, Carol (Randy) Senor of Mexico, Jim (Julia) Niekamp of Columbia, Phillip (Collette) Niekamp of Mexico, and Debbie Householder of Mexico. Their families include many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and many sisters-in-law.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Walter Stegeman, Jr.; and one son, Ross Stegeman.
