At the regular Mexico City Council meeting on September 25, the council voted to approved the 2017-2018 operating and capital budget by 3-2.
At that meeting council member Shivers said she was concerned about cutting the hours of a full-time employee at the Mexico Animal Shelter.
Once the budget was passed Shivers made a motion for the city manager to look into having the full-time position returned with benefits at the shelter. The motion passed. The council asked Slagle for more information to see if the budget needed to be amended.
At October 9 work session, Slagle provided the council with the information they requested and after nearly an hour of discussion, the consensus of the council was to accept Slagle's recommendation to leave the budget as it was voted on at the September 25 meeting.
The council also asked for Slagle to do a wage and benefit survey with area businesses.
The regular council meeting Monday night did not have any resolutions or ordinances. The short meeting consisted of approving the September work session minutes and regular meeting minutes, paying the bills and council comments.
After the adjournment of the regular meeting, council members met in executive session.
