Having gone 8-15 overall in 2017, the Montgomery County varsity volleyball team still had enough energy left after competing in the Eastern Missouri Conference for most of the regular season to then face Father Tolton, 7-15-3 overall, on Monday in the Class 2, District 7, quarterfinals.

That confidence then paid off in spades as the Lady Wildcats won in two sets to advance to the semifinals on Tuesday against Hermann, 25-6-1 overall, which drew an opening round bye. The rest of the opening round featured Hallsville defeating North Callaway in two sets and Bowling Green befell the same fate against Centralia. The put the Lady Panthers up against Hallsville in the semifinals on Oct. 17 and the championship was decided later that evening.
