After a regular season that ended with a record of 9-13 overall and placing third in the North Central Missouri Conference at 5-5, the Mexico varsity volleyball team began Class 3, District 8, on Tuesday against league rival Boonville, 13-11-2 overall.
While the venue at Marshall was just as familiar to the Lady Bulldogs as their opponent, that wasn't enough to keep the team from getting eliminated in two sets.
The rest of this district began that same day with Fulton, 6-17-3 overall, losing in three sets to Southern Boone, 8-17 -3 overall, and Kirksville, 14-11-2, won in three sets against Marshall, 4-19-5 overall. California, 30-5 overall, then beat Southern Boone in two sets, as well as Kirksville, which downed Boonville in three sets in round two to make the finals. California next played in the Class 3 sectionals against Incarnate, 11-5 overall, at home on Saturday.
As for Mexico's All-NCMC selections, according to Mexico High School Sports twitter account, Adria Costley earned First-Team recognition and Katie Paladin was named to the Second-Team. The squad held its team banquet Thursday night, as well.
