Audrain County Shelter Resource Coalition will continue Room at the Inn project for the fourth year beginning in January.

The Room at the Inn will be operating from January 1, through February 28, 2018 at the Garfield Community Center at the Mexico Housing Authority 820 Garfield, Mexico.

This project exists due to the support of the community, volunteers, and members of the coalition.

Volunteers are need to help the project obtain the objective of having a warm safe environment for those who are displaced and in need of shelter for the night, during inclement weather.

As always, the coalition accepts and appreciates donations of such items as coffee, filters, bottled water, hot chocolate packets, boxed juices, prepackaged meals, individual snacks, creamer and sweeteners. Paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, and trash bags, and personal hygiene products for men, women and children are also need, as well as styrofoam bowls and plates and plastic cutlery. One of the drop off sites is Jackson Street Drug.

The hours of operation are from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. seven days a week.

Check-in time is from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Guests are required to have their belongings stored in a locked closet. No alcohol, firearms or tobacco of any form is allowed inside the building. For those who smoke they will have a smoke break at 9 p.m. The doors are then locked for safety and security, Lights are out at 10 p.m. Use of profanity is prohibited and respect of the volunteers, staff and other guests is a must,

Guests will be searched with a hand held wand to ensure safety of all persons.

There will be a volunteer training program that must be attended by anyone who wants to volunteer. The date will be announced soon.

A fundraiser will be held at Dagwood, Jr. on November 12 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Also, T-shirts will be on sale.
