Mariann Petty Lowry of Jacksonville, FL passed away at Hadlow Hospice Center on November 17, 2017. She was born in St. Louis, MO on March 28, 1928, to Herbert and Jessie Petty. She is survived by Hugh Lowry her husband of 70 years, her brother, Arthur Petty (Dee) of Springfield, MO, her daughter Glenda Edwards (Bill) of Jacksonville and her son Robert Lowry of Houston, TX; 3 grandchildren, Lorin Newell, Chattanooga, TN, Robert Lowry (Heather), Houston, TX and Sara Daniel of St. Augustine, FL.; and 3 great grandchildren.
While living in Memphis, TN, Mrs. Lowry volunteered as a Pink Lady at Methodist Hospital for 15 years, working closely with patients in the Love Ward, and assisting the chaplain.
Moving to Jacksonville in 1976, they were active members of Beach United Methodist Church. For 7 years she held federal and state permits for rescuing injured wild birds. Her special joy was working with the hawks, owls and pelicans.
She wrote the book, Dear Old Girl, a true story about their family dog. She was also known for writing poetry for and about many family members and close friends.
A private service will be held at a later date in Mexico, MO.
