In its first game since wrapping up its own tournament on Dec. 2, the Montgomery County varsity boys basketball team was back in action at home on Tuesday against South Callaway.
Even though Wildcats first-year head coach is young, one mistake he made sure to avoid was looking ahead to their initial Eastern Missouri Conference game on Friday at Silex. Instead, despite starters Tin Hall and Aubrey Nelson out because of injury, he had his squad ready for action and it showed as Montgomery County beat the Bulldogs 63-45.
"We had some guys that haven't seen a ton of time this season really step up for us. Colin Parrish and Skyler Hutcheson moved into the starting lineup and played very well," said Kroeger. "Chris Harrison had another monster game with over 20 points and eight rebounds. The key to the game was how well we defended and rebounded. Even with quite a few missed layups and free throws by us our defense allowed us to maintain a lead until we could get into a rhythm offensively."
The Lady Wildcats, 4-1overall, hosts Wellsville-Middletown on Dec. 15 in EMO action.
