Whether it's odd hours, unfamiliar locations or the unforgiving nature of playing back-to-back boys varsity basketball games, head coach Darren Pappas and Mexico have seen quite a lot this season.
One of the few things the Bulldogs, 5-5 overall, haven't seen this season is Rolla, 7-1 overall, but since its hosting the US Bank Holiday Tournament and these two teams faced off Thursday in the first game of this three-day event, that contest had the potential to be a veritable fireworks display. Instead, try as they might, Mexico was down 33-18 at halftime before falling to Rolla 69-45 according to maxpreps.com.
Things only got worse for the Bulldogs in the third as a 43-18 deficit grew to 48-18 on a three-pointer and two free throws by Rolla's Josh Pritchett. Blaize Klossner and Nick Janke then hit field goals, leading to a back-and forth that concluded with Mexico trailing 56-27 heading into the fourth.
The Bulldogs, 5-6 overall, next faced Warrensburg on Friday and the event concluded on Saturday.
