Everyone has their own idea of fun.

Some people like roller coasters. Others enjoy hunting or the outdoors. For Mexico varsity girls basketball coach Ed Costley, his idea of a good time was the four overtime game his team participated in at the Warrenton Tournament on Wednesday against Eureka. In fact, after getting outscored 16-14 in the first quarter and 12-11 in the second to head into halftime trailing 28-25, the Lady Bulldogs had to come back and post a 19-16 advanatge in the fourth to tie things up at 59-59.

That created a deadlock that lasted for the initial three extra sessions before Eureka finally grabbed a five point edge in the fourth and final overtime to defeat Mexico 80-75.

"I’ve coached a five overtome game prior to being at Mexico, but this one was different. The swings in this game came fast in each quarter," Ed Costley said. "(This was) fun to be a part of, except the 12:45 a.m. bus return. The girls really fought through in this game and showed some growth as a young team."

Working hard to see this game end differently was Adria Costley with 19 points, 13 rebounds, six steals, six rebounds and three assists, Reghan Smith had 17 points, four assists and fiur boards and Raigan Playter added 14 points. Logan Blevins also had quite a game for the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points and two rebounds, Aaryn Sampo was good for four rebounds and charting four points each were Kaylee Jones, Rachl Kristofferson and Taylor Sherrow.

"Eureka was a good shooting team and we needed to defend the three-point line. I thought we did that most of the game a few possessions late in game we loss our assignment," said Ed Costley. "We had opportunities in regulation and the overtimes, but we just could not seal the deal. Each segment ended with one team being up by basket or two with less than a minute and somehow the other team would find a way to scrap out a point to tie it."

Weather permitting, Mexico will play in round three of the Warrenton Tournament on Friday.
