William Louis Hase, 96, of Mexico, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Arnold Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Routledge officiating. Burial with military honors will be at East Lawn Memorial Park, Mexico.
Visitation is Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m.
William was born January 13, 1921 at his family home in Treloar, Missouri, the son of William Carl Hase and Elda Wilamena Brandt. On September 1, 1972 at Trinity Church of Christ in Mexico, he was married to Wilma Lewis Benskin by the Rev. George Wraith.
Mr. Hase had worked for Curtiss-Wright Airplane Factory until he left to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a LST Commander and participated in the invasion of Okinawa, Mindora, and Leyte.
After returning from the war, Bill farmed for a short time. He then joined Pete Oliver Trucking and Concrete for 15 years and 35 years for Hunt Concrete where he served as General Manager of six plants in the area.
Mr. Hase was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge #354 and over 50 year membership with the Mexico Host Lions Club where he obtained 30 years of perfect attendance. While in the Lions Club, he served as President of the local chapter and the Missouri Northeast Zone.
William was a life member of the American Legion James Bledsoe Post #26. He was the first veteran in Mexico to take the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. and was recently honored as a Mexico DAR Patriot. In addition, Bill was presented a Quilt of Valor by the Satin Stitches Ladies group in Columbia at a Veterans Day celebration.
Mr. Hase was gifted in singing and loved to share his talent. He sang for many funerals, weddings, and dedications and was invited to sing the national anthem at the Missouri Veterans Home grand opening and later at the 25th anniversary celebration.
Bill, an 80+ year member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Christ was confirmed at the age of 14. He was instrumental in the development of Trinity United Church of Christ in the 1950’s and served as President of the Board, along with other board positions. When Trinity UCC closed, he and Wilma joined the First Christian Church in Mexico in 1985. Bill served on the church board as elder and Wilma on the board as deacon.
Mr. Hase served on the Help Center Board and was a Mexico Chamber of Commerce Ambassador with his wife for over 10 years. He was also a member of the AARP and the TPA.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Hase of the home; four sons and their wives, Dr. William Hase (Alice) of Lubbock, TX, Randall Hase (Linda) of St. George, UT, Allan Hase (Cindy) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Gayle Hase (Judy) of Carrabelle, FL; and two step-children, Barbara Benskin Adams of Centralia, and Keith Benskin (Diane) of Lewisville, Texas. Grandchildren include Taylor Hase of Naples, FL, Guy Hase of Ft. Myers, FL, Heidi Hase of Bend, OR, Kristin Adams-Vargas (Tom) of Columbia, and Darren Adams (Michelle) of Centralia; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Olivia, Avery and Alden Adams, all of Centralia; and one sister, Madelyn Sprick (Julius) of Webster Groves, MO.
Mr. Hase was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, Theodore, Victor and Wilbur; and four sisters, Emma, Laura, Cornelia, and Elvira.
