On Friday, January 12, 2018, at approximately 1:32 a.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to Garfield Park in reference to a vehicle in the park that had possibly been involved in a crash.

According to Mexico Public Safety, responding personnel found Sandra Gardner, 61, of Mexico, in her 1999 Toyota Camry. Gardner was unresponsive, according to the MPSD report.

MPSD and personnel from Audrain Ambulance District tried to revive her. She was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain by Audrain Ambulance District and she was eventually pronounced dead.

Investigation indicates that Gardner was driving down the roadway and lost consciousness due to health issues. Her vehicle then left the roadway and came to a stop in the park, near a tree. Neither her vehicle nor any property in the park were damaged.
