Last weekend was like and old west shootout when it came to all the tournaments coming to a close.
Action was abound both near and far, and for the Montgomery County varsity boys basketball team that meant playing Hermann last Friday in round two of the South Callaway Tournament.
Even though Hermann did a good job getting past North Callaway in the opening round of this event, head coach Scott Kroeger's initial season with the Wildcats has gone exceptionally well so far and this contest was no exception.
That's because Chris Harrison had 17 points and Aubrey Nelson scored 13 to help Montgomery County come out on top 61-50.
"We played very aggressive defense and were able to battle in the post despite foul trouble from all three post guys," said Kroeger. "Carson Parker gave us some good minutes while John Shaw and Cole Curry were battling fouls. Harrison, Corey Kroll and Skyler Hutcheson were big on the glass against a very long and athletic team."
The Wildcats, 10-2 overall, 2-1 Eastern Missouri Conference, were next scheduled to play New Bloonfield for the South Callaway Tournment title on Saturday against New Bloomfield.
