When Cordell Hollensteiner and Bobby Jett both score in double digits for the Community R-6 varsity boys basketball team, things tend to go well.
So, Because the duo put up 24 and 11 points, respectively, against Clopton at home on Tuesday in Eastern Missouri Conference action, the stars appeared to be in alignment for yet another CR-6 victory. The Hawks had absolutely no interest what-so-ever in following that logic and instead rode Landon Hall as far as he could take them, which included a 20 point performance and a 62-55 league win.
"We had a hard time getting stops in the fourth quarter," said coach Matt Thomas. "It was a three point game with 2:30 to go and we just didn't get the stop we needed."
The rest of CR-6's contributions included 10 points by Eric Hombs, Blaze Escamilla made a seven-point contribution and Evan Hartsock chipped in with three points.
One big difference in this game is that after the Trojans claimed the opening quarter 17-13, they got outscored in every session that followed. This included 17-15 in the second, 17-12 in the third and 20-11 in the fourth.
Guiding Clopton's fortunes in this contest were Zakk Eivins with 14 points, Malrek McPike made his mark with 12 points and Parker Edmiston made a 10-point contribution.
CR-6, 7-12 overall, is at Wellsville-Middletown on Friday for a league game.
