Knowing that the rematch was awaiting them on Monday on the road in the first round of class 3, district 8, the Mexico varsity girls basketball team went into Fulton on Thursday looking to end the regular season with a North Central Missouri Conference win.

What followed was three players scoring in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, including Logan Blevins, who went 8-for-11 from the floor to score 17 with six steals and four rebounds. Raigan Playter also prepped for the playoffs by peppering the defense for 13 points, four rebounds and three assists to help Mexico earn a 53-43 league win over the Lady Hornets.

" Obviously the difference from our Hannibal game Tuesday night was just a better percentage shooting-wise. We knew coming in we would have the advantage down low in the post," said coach Ed Costley. "We worked through our offense for looks and thought we managed pick and roll situations better than we have all year. Playter had a balanced attack finding her way to the line and making some outside shots."

With Adria Costley proving to be the teams' third double-digit scorer with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals, overall Mexico shot 20-for-50 for this game. That includes 3-for-12 from behind the three-point line. The Lady Bulldogs also went 10-for-16 from the free throw line with 26 boards, 15 assists and 10 steals.

"Ball control is key for us. We've been a streaky shooting team all season and sometimes that puts us in bad spots if we don't settle from time to time," Ed Costley said. "Shelbi Shaw returned last night, and had some solid minutes being active on offensive boards. We had 19-point lead in fourth, but we got a little anxious to go score at times. We did a good job in the last couple of minutes of managing the clock."

Defensively Mexico, 12-12 overall, held the Lady Hornets to just 15-for-40 from the floor and 0-for-3 from three-point territory.
