The Spring Fundraising Campaign is underway for the A+ For Mexico Education mini-grant program. This program is totally funded through the donations of local businesses, individuals, area grant foundations and the United Way. At the beginning of the school year, local teachers are invited to submit grant requests for up to $3,000. This grant program is unique to Mexico, and area teachers have received funding for extra classroom and teaching materials since the program's inception in 1991.
This past year the mini-grant program awarded 31 grants totaling $26,886.00 to Mexico schools. One of the recipients was Mrs Katelynn Isaacson who teaches 3rd grade at McMillan Elementary School. Her grant was for flexible seating which funded a variety of fun seating options including bean bags, balance ball and bungee chairs. Research has shown that this type of seating helps students to be more engaged and to focus better on the classroom activities.
Mrs. Isaacson said “ These new seating options have helped to improve student behavior, and the students love it! We are very grateful to Mexico's A+ mini-grant program which allowed us to purchase these seats.”
Donations are welcome and can be mailed to A+ for Mexico Education at PO Box 403, Mexico, Mo.
