Even though Saturday's JV baseball tournament was called because of a lack of numbers, the North Callaway varsity baseball team had no such luck on Friday and instead had to be out there in the wind and cold.
The T-bird's are probably glad they did, though, considering their trip to Clopton, 1-1 overall, 1-1 Eastern Missouri Conference, garnered 10 runs in the third inning and Chad Maupin gave up four earned runs on 6 hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts to earn the victory as North Calllaway won 15-4.
"It took our bats a while to get going because of the cold," said coach Kevin O'Neal.
Ben Bradley came out swinging strong for the Thunderbirds, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and, one run a walk, Clark Zerr was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a walk Sam Althiser was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a walk. Justin Popp went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run, as well.
For the game North Callaway, 2-4 overall, 2-4 Eastern Missouri Conference, outhit Clopton 14-6. The Thunderbirds next game is at Blair Oaks today.
