With the top four in each event qualifying for the state championships next weekend in Jefferson City, the Mexico varsity track and field teams were in top form at sectionals last Friday and Saturday.
"We were fortunate to qualify several Bulldogs to the state track meet this weekend. Alex Dukes set a personal record in the 1600," said coach Buck Green. "Moenasia Sidique continued her improvement in the 400. Terrese Aaron was a double qualifier in the shot/discus. Cameron Holman was third in the 300 hurdles, which rounded out our qualifiers. The boys were third of 21 teams in a very talented sectional of primarily St. Louis schools."
Highlights included a pair of double qualifiers that featured Jasean White placing first in the Long Jump by tying his own personal record of 22-10 and coming in second in the triple jump with a distance of 44-8. Alex Dukes also won both the 1,600 in 4:25.72 and the 3,200 in a school rercord 9:31.24, breaking the old mark set by Hayden Legg.
Terrese Aaron was also a runner-up in the discus at 140-8.
Also competing for the Lady Bulldogs in the high jump and taking sixth was Catie Bledsoe with a height of 4-10, in the triple jump Jennifer Jacobi was also sixth with a distance of 34-9 and seventh in the long jump at 15-7 and Moenasia Sidique took seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:31.64.
Grabbing the eighth spot for the boys in the 300 hurdles in 42.74 was Jonathon Grubb, Tyler Brandow was eighth, as well, in the 800 at 2:03.37 and in the girls 4x400 relay finishing eighth was Lauren Quinlan Rebecca Rothermich, Haley Rogers and Sidique.
