Schenck Named Google Cloud Academic All-America

Columbia, Mo. - This morning the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America College Division Track and Field/Cross Country Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) were announced. For his efforts academically and athletically, Columbia College senior Seth Schenck was named a 2017-18 First Team Google Cloud Academic All-America in the College Division.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America College Division Track & Field/Cross Country Teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

Schenck, a senior out of New Haven, Missouri, had a great cross country season for the Cougars in the fall earning two top five finishes in five races he competed in. He took fifth place in the SBU Bearcat Invitational as well as the AMC Men's Cross Country Championships which earned him his third straight All-AMC honors. In addition, he helped lift his team to a runner-up finish at the 2017 NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships which is the highest finish for the team since the program began competing in 2012.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team had a combined GPA of 3.88 and included four student-athletes with perfect 4.0 marks.

Pitching league results for 6-12-18 in Singles competition includes Eugene Freels 6-0, Larry Brown 5-1, Rodney Brewster 3-3 (38LP), Charlie Maupin 3-3 (35LP), Ralph Throckmorton 3-3 (34LP), Duane Freels 1-5 and Ron Boscherding 0-6.

In Doubles action, results included Boscherding,Brown 3-0, Duane Freels/Brewster 2-1, Throckmorton/Maupin 1-2 and Alysha Kreamer/Eugene Freels 0-3. Details: 573-581-8559.

 

Central Missouri Athletics Circuit

The Mexico Optimists Club will be offering a youth cross country program for kids age 6-14 from Aug-Nov. called the Hounds that will compete in Mid-Missouri, but there will also be an option to participate in regional and national competitions. Distances will be two kilometers for kids ages 6-8, three kilometers for 9-12 year olds and for kilometers for individuals ages 13 and 14. Cost is $40. To All Mid-Missouri Middle and High School Students

On July 12 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. th Missouri Orthpaedic Institute, 1100 Virginia Ave, is offering a Sports Physical Day. Not only will each athlete get a basic sports physical, but they'll also get evaluated by an optometrist and an orthopaedic specialist. Baseline consission tests are available upon request, as well. Coming up for Thunderbird's

This summer at North Callaway, the summer docket includes football camp for the varsity and JV from July 16-20 at the high school from 6-9 p.m. and softball camp for the middle school and high school programs is July 16-18 from 7-10 a.m. There will also be a volleyball camp July 23-26 with sessions from 2-3 p.m. for athletes in grades 4-6, from 3-4 p.m. will be the seventh and eighth graders and the high school kids will participate from 4-5:30 p.m. Details: Thunderbirdproud.com.
