UPDATE 7/14 at 1:23 p.m.: Kierra Glispie is in critical condition, according to a representative of University Hospital in Columbia. 

Three people were killed Thursday afternoon in a car accident on U.S. Route 54 about two miles south of Laddonia, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The fatal crash occurred around 2 p.m. when the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling east and attempted to pass a 2014 Freightliner traveling in the same direction. The Monte Carlo, driven by 24-year-old Kierra Glispie of Justice, Illinois, then hit a westbound 2008 Mercury Mariner head on. The Mercury Mariner was pushed into the Freightliner.

The occupants of the westbound Mercury Mariner, Douglas Turner, 75, and Helen Turner, 72, both of Licking, Missouri, were pronounced dead at the scene Audrain County Deputy Coroner Kevin Nash. A passenger in the eastbound Monte Carlo, 18-year-old Kyreoin Glispie, of Justice, Illinois, was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s hospital. Kierra Glispie suffered serious injuries and is being treated at University Hospital in Columbia.

The driver of the Freightliner, 50-year-old Roby Sharp, was uninjured. His vehicle sustained moderate damage and was able to drive away from the scene.
