COURTESY COLUMBIA COLLEGE

Columbia, Mo. -This afternoon the NAIA national office announced the 2018 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Cougars, who are picked to finish first in the American Midwest Conference, will open the 2018 campaign as the 10thranked team in the NAIA.

The women's soccer team is coming off of another successful season a year ago as the team finished the season with a 21-2 overall record. They won both the AMC regular season and tournament titles and earned a spot in the NAIA National Championships before falling to Westmont (Calif.) University 1-0 in the second round. The team finished last season ranked first nationally in shutouts per game (0.780), and second in shots per game (25.830), shots on goal per game (13.390), total shutouts (18.000), total assists (86), and total goals (104).

The Cougars will look to carry over their success into this season as they return 11 players from a year ago who combined for a total of 59 goals and 44 assists. In addition to the 11 returning players, the Cougars will also have nine newcomers including three transfers and six freshman.

The women's soccer team will open their season on Monday, August 20th when they play host to the John Brown (Ark.) University Golden Eagles in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 5 p.m. on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
