COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball officially opens its 44th all-time season this weekend at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Tigers will play three matches over a two-day span, highlighted by back to back matches against 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in Fairfield and James Madison.

Series Snapshot vs. Delaware State

·         The Tigers and Hornets are set for their first all-time matchup Friday afternoon.

Series Snapshot vs. Fairfield

·         Mizzou leads the all-time series, 2-0.

·         Saturday morning’s matchup will mark the team’s second all-time meeting at a neutral location. The teams’ last true meeting occurred on Sept. 5, 2013, on the campus of Fairfield in Fairfield, Connecticut.

·         The Tigers tallied straight-set sweeps in each of their prior contests against the Stags.

Series Snapshot vs. James Madison

·         The Tigers and Dukes are set for their first all-time matchup Saturday evening.

History of Mizzou Season Openers

·         The Tigers have had incredible success in their recent season openers, including 10 consecutive triumphs dating back to 2008.

·         Mizzou traditionally opens its respective campaign with a nonconference tournament and have produced an unblemished record and top honors in those meetings six times in the past 10 years (2009, ’10-11, ’13, ’15-16).

Mizzou Picked Third in SEC Preseason Coaches Poll

·         Mizzou is projected to place third this upcoming season, according to the 2018 Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced on July 2.

·         The Tigers, fresh off their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, have been one of the SEC’s top programs since joining the conference in 2012.

·         Mizzou has finished top-3 each of the past three seasons, highlighted by an SEC Championship in 2016. The Tigers have placed outside the top-4 only once in their six total years inside the SEC.
