It wasn't that long ago that when the Mexico varsity boys soccer team faced Boonville it was for North Central Missouri Conference supremacy, but when the squads faced off on Monday in the initial game of 2018-19, while there may have been some familiarity, there were certainly no league implications.
Instead, some might even say that not only is the rivalry dead, but that this game was anti-climactic. Others might challenge that notion with the concept that anytime the Bulldogs can defeat the Pirates at home 5-1, it's been a good day.
"Communication and teamwork helped us to pull away from Boonville on Mondaynight at home," said new head coach William Gleeson. "(The) goals were scored by Diego Vasquez, Roberto Matuz, Alex Ventura and two by Alan Ventura."
Mexico, 1-0 overall, 0-0 NCMC, hosts Fulton today for a league contest.
