The Callaway County Democratic Club is hosting a candidate forum tonight at 6 p.m. at KACO Kitchen, 600 Commons Drive, in Fulton. This event was organized after the cancellation of a debate which was planned at the Coulter Science Center on the campus of Westminster College, in Fulton. The debate was cancelled when a number of candidates pulled out of the debate.

Those seeking to attend the forum should call 573-826-3334 so the Democratic Club and KACO have an idea of numbers as a spaghetti dinner will be served.

Candidates attending the forum are Jamie Blair, who is running for state representative in the 43rd district, which covers Audrain and northeastern Callaway counties; Lisa Buhr, who is running for state representative in the 49th district, which covers southern Callaway County; and Dr. Ayanna Shivers, who is running for state senate in the 10th district.

State Sen. Jeanie Riddle currently represents the 10th senate district and a person from her office said Riddle would still like to debate Shivers.

Kent Haden, the Republican candidate for state representative in the 43rd district, said the reason he pulled out was due to not receiving preparatory debate documents until late Monday evening, when, he said, other candidates had received the information last week.

"I didn't feel that was appropriate preparation time compared to the people we're running against," he said.

State Rep. Travis Fitzwater, for the 49th district, said he was unable to attend the debate due to an out-of-state family death.
