JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon on Monday named a new head of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Major Ronald Replogle must still be confirmed by the Senate. If approved, he would take over as Highway Patrol superintendent at the end of February when the current head retires.
Replogle is a 26 year veteran of the Highway Patrol. He graduated second in his class from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Academy and is currently the commander of the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
He also became director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control in 2001 and spent more than three years as an investigator and assistant director with the Professional Standards Division.
The Highway Patrol superintendent must be chosen from the uniformed members of the agency.
In a news release, Nixon called Replogle ‘‘the right person for this position of great responsibility.’’ The release cites Replogle’s work with both federal and local law enforcement agencies as reasons for his appointment.
The current superintendent, Col. James Keathley, is retiring after more than 30 years with the Highway Patrol. He began serving as superintendent in 2006.
