As the number of soccer players in the nation nears 20 million, the No. 1 soccer company in the U.S. and Canada, Challenger Sports, has been invited again to hold one of their nationwide programs of British soccer training camps in Mexico this summer.
Mexico Parks & Recreation and Challenger Sports have teamed up to host the week-long British soccer camp July 12-16 at Fairgrounds Park.
The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs. Challenger will hold more than 2,000 British soccer camps this summer and will coach more than 100,000 players between the ages of 4 and 18 plus more than 20,000 parents and coaches.
Challenger’s British soccer camp is more than a week of drills and skills. In addition to taking part in a daily regimen of foot-skill development, technical and tactical practices and daily tournament-style play, each child also will be treated to a rich cultural experience and lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship.
The most popular part of each camp is the World Cup. The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up cheers, bring flags, dress up and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.
Mexico Parks & Recreation is offering British soccer camp sessions to all children for the following ages: 6-18 from 9 a.m. to noon for $110 and 8-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $159.
Teams are also welcome to attend and receive a week of focused instruction to prepare them for the fall season.
This year, in addition to the soccer camp, there is a new program called the British Experience. This consists of the regular soccer camp in the morning and a collection of British sports and fun games in the afternoon. Games played will include tag rugby, non-stop cricket, rounders, kick ball, obstacle course and more. The British Experience is for ages 8-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $159.
Each camper will receive a free camp T-shirt, soccer ball, soccer poster and an individual skills performance evaluation as well as a free replica soccer jersey ($39 value) with online registration before May 28. To sign up for the camp, either visit www.challengersports.com or contact Chad Shoemaker at 581-2100 or mexparks@socket.net.
