Work is under way to replace 900 feet of two-inch diameter water line with a six-inch diameter water line and add a new fire hydrant on Anderson Street between Stewart and Grand. The existing water main is about 40 years old.
The project will also relocate the water main from the middle of the street to the area between the curb and the sidewalk for easier maintenance.
“This project will help improve fire flows and enhance water service reliability for McMillan School and the neighbors in the area,” said Patrick Kelly, operations superintendent, Mexico District.
M&M Excavating, a local firm, is installing the new waterline this week. Area residents and school officials have been informed and minimal traffic impact or water service interruption is anticipated. The school will be connected to the new water main after school hours.
Missouri American Water, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately 1.5 million people.
