JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has signed bills making it easier for military members to vote and giving contracting boosts for disabled veterans.
The bills signed today make college scholarships available to children of military officials who move to Missouri within one year of their retirement. The legislation also allows the Missouri National Guard to set up an academy for students who are at risk of not graduating from traditional high schools.
The voting legislation is needed to comply with federal requirements. It allows local election officials to send ballots by e-mail.
Nixon was holding signing ceremonies at state veterans homes in Cameron, Warrensburg and Mount Vernon.
Military bills are HB1524, HB1893, HB2147, HB2262
