Abby Grimmett named Miss Audrain, Courtney Thomure Miss Outstanding Teen for 2010
It might have been snowing outside Sunday but inside Presser Performing Arts Center, it was anything but a gloomy winter day when 13 young women and teens lit up the stage for the Miss Audrain and Miss Audrain Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageants.
After two hours of talent, lifestyle and physical fitness, evening wear, and on-stage question competition, Abby Grimmett of Perry who will be 22 on Tuesday was crowned Miss Audrain 2010; and Courtney Thomure, 17, of New London was crowned Miss Audrain Outstanding Teen. Both will compete in their respective state competitions this June in Mexico.
Grimmett, a junior journalism student at the University of Missouri is the daughter of John and Patti Grimmett. For her talent she performed a piano solo titled “Cumina.” Grimmett who has been playing the piano since she was four was happy with her talent performance and said it was the most fun part of the pageant. In reference to choosing her selection Grimmett simply said, “I have been playing it for a couple of years now, so why change.” She also gives credit to her piano teacher and her mom, who are one and the same.
The new Miss Audrain is looking forward to returning to the Miss Missouri stage in June. “I have always dreamed of someday being Miss Missouri,” she stated. This will be her fourth year at the state pageant and she joked about being a seasoned contestant. She is also looking forward to seeing some of the friends at the pageant she has met during her years of competition.
Grimmett’s platform is Agricultural Awareness.
As Miss Audrain 2010, Grimmett will receive a $1,000 scholarship; wardrobe allow-ance, and many other gifts.
