The annual Relay for Life was held Friday at Mexico Middle School. Every year cancer survivors take the first lap around the track. One photo: bystanders applaud the survivors and their caretakers as they make their way around the track. Another photo: Melissa Kropf Roberts formerly of Mexico, a cancer survivor, tells her story. She is a three-year survivor and was diagnosed at the age of 32. On stage with her is her son, Max. Another photo: L.J. and Hellen Dean hold hands at they walk the survivor's lap. Another photo: Nicole Webber sings the National Anthem to start the evening. Another photo: Nancy Early gets ready to give her sister, Susan Paden, a hug after Early presents Paden with the Dr. Ned Rodes Community Service award. The Eastern Miracle Walkers raised more than $82,000. The Go-Getters, raised a little over $20,000.
There were 397 survivors.
"This really says a lot about out community," said Relay committee member Nancy Early. "Each year, they outdo themselves by leaps and bounds."
