Through the immense support and cooperation of many individuals and businesses, today we present The Ledger’s Outlook 2010 edition.
The annual Outlook edition is created to serve as a complete look at Ledgerland’s progress over the past year and a preview of what lies ahead.
Following two months of extensive effort, it is finally time to sit back and relax, and read about the many and diverse businesses and organizations that define and sustain Ledgerland.
We salute – and thank – all the participants, without whom this special edition would not be possible.
Following is a preview of the types of articles published in the Outlook 2010 edition included in today's Ledger:
Mexico Career Center
The Mexico Career Center offers career assessment, educational assistance and job placement support to individuals in the Audrain County area. Monthly workshops are offered for area job seekers on topics such as building a resumes, job search and interview skills, workplace communication, and other information to meet the demands of today’s employers.
Throughout 2009, the Career Center has experienced an increase in demand. The staff have worked closely with local companies that were forced to do layoffs so that their employees are assisted as swiftly as possible. Additionally, funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) have made it possible to provide more substantial supportive services to people experiencing job loss.
ARRA also made a summer youth employment program possible. The Next Generations Jobs Team was offered by CMCA staff at the Mexico Career Center, offering summer work experience for youth ages 14-24. The program offered a source of income and valuable skill development to the participants, while also offering employers an opportunity to access additional labor resources.
In 2010, the Career Center will continue to pursue community partnerships to meet the needs of local residents. By working closely with the business community and doing what we can to contribute to the economic development efforts within the county, we hope to see increased job opportunity for Mexico and the surrounding area.
