Gov. Nixon named to national defense council

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – President Barack Obama has selected Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to serve on an advisory council for defense and national security issues.
Nixon was one of 10 governors named Thursday by Obama to the newly created Council of Governors.
A White House statement said the group will work with the secretaries of defense and homeland security to offer advice on matters relating to the National Guard, homeland defense and ways to coordinate state and federal military activities.
