WELLSVILLE – Cora Brown of Gamma Road Lodge Golden Living Center in Wellsville is 106 years old today. She was born Nov. 26, 1902 and has spent much of her life here in Wellsville. She lived in the St. Louis area in her earlier years, working as a bookkeeper, but then returned home to take care of her parents and sister. After their deaths she remained in Wellsville helping others.
She has always enjoyed reading and flowers. She still reads the newspapers and watches the news on television every day. Some days she still enjoys "Wheel of Fortune," but she mostly enjoys playing solitaire on hand-held electronic games.
She also enjoys the twice weekly Bingo games, all kinds of music, church and Bible Study.
She is a member of the Wellsville Methodist Church. Brown enjoys going to the beauty shop every week "to get all fixed up" she says. She is still very active – wheeling herself around in her wheelchair and going wherever she wants or needs to go. She was still driving and taking care of others until her admission to the nursing home in 2001.
"Cora has been an inspiration to the staff and anyone who takes the time to talk with her," said Cheryl Wieberg, activity director at the center.
