KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Kansas City will recognize black soldiers from all the nation's wars with a memorial on one of its boulevards.
The parks department and a civic group called the Enshriners plans to dedicate a memorial along the Paseo boulevard on Sunday to honor all blacks in the Kansas City area who have served in the nation's armed forces and reserves.
The Kansas City Star is reporting that organizers are hoping the observance will include a military flyover and paratroopers landing nearby.
The memorial will include a black granite plaque, landscaping, new trees, and a 50-foot flagpole. To fund an endowment to maintain the memorial, the Enshriners are selling commemorative bricks that can be inscribed in honor of a loved one. The bricks will be placed in the central walkway of the memorial.
