Hugh “Buddy” Lowry of Jacksonville, FL passed away on January 23, 2018, at the age of 90. He was born in Wellsville, MO to Walter and Lucy Lowry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mariann Petty Lowry. He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Edwards (Bill) of Jacksonville, FL, his son, Robert Lowry, Huston, TX, 3 grandchildren, Lorin Newell, Chattanooga, TN, Sara Daniel, St. Augustine, FL, Robert Lowry (Heather), Houston, TX; and 4 great grandchildren, Aliya Ferrell and Orion Ferrell, St. Augustine, FL, Kaidyn Lowry, and Luke Lowry, Houston, TX; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Hugh graduated from Mexico High School in 1945; and married his beloved Mariann in 1947. While working for A. P. Green Refractories, he was relocated to Chicago, IL, Memphis, TN, and finally to Jacksonville, FL where he resided with his wife for over 45 years. Hugh retired from A. P. Green in November, 1989 after 43 years of service. He enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, baking muffins and cookies for family and friends, feeding the many birds in his yard; and was an avid golfer. He read hundreds of books and was fascinated with our country’s history, autobiographies and stories of the old west. Collecting and repairing many clocks through the years and woodworking were his most enjoyed hobbies. He crafted hundreds of items with his woodworking skills and distributed to many people as gifts and never for sale. With his two hands he touched many lives using them as an extension of his heart. Hugh served his community and church by sitting on various committees and boards throughout his entire life. He served with the Sertoma Club and was a Mason for 50 years; he worked with Boy Scouts of America and he provided yearly tickets to the circus for the children in his church. Hugh was an exemplary of his generation which helped their neighbors as if family. There are many men who would have considered him as one of their best friends, “Buddy” will be missed by family and friends. A private graveside service for family will be held in Mexico, MO.
